Leading NE supplier of cedar fence products secures source of cedar lumber
AVO Fence & Supply, a leading provider of cedar fence components in the New England area, has acquired a lumber mill in Howland, Maine. The acquisition, Howland Cedar Products, provides the company with a reliable source of cedar for its customers at a time when cedar production is declining across the state.
“The needs of our customers are our top priority,” says Mike Palmer of AVO Fence & Supply. “Eastern white cedar is a remarkable wood that is becoming scarcer. Because the production of cedar in Maine is declining, it is a priority to bolster our supply of cedar. The mill allows us to control our ability to provide our customers with the cedar products they need when they need them.”
At the time of AVO’s acquisition of the mill in February 2023, it was not operational. The company spent 18 months implementing specific design changes to the building for the production of cedar rails, posts, and boards, as well as making significant upgrades to the equipment. Howland Cedar Products is fully staffed and running at full capacity.
