How to Benefit from Your Slow Season

The winter months in New England can be a lean time for fence installation and other outdoor-based businesses. But before you write off the season entirely, consider these tips for turning the “off-season” on and making winter one of your most productive times of the year!

Tool Inventory & Maintenance

One way to be sure you’re at the top of your game come spring? Take an inventory of all of your fence installation tools, giving them a good once over cleaning, and making note of any that need to be repaired or replaced. Do a little research to find out if there are additional tools that you could add to your kit to help you and your team install different types of fence faster and more efficiently.

We recommend the following tools to make your job easier:

  • Doweling Machine: A dowel drilling machine (also referred to as a dowel boring machine) is a machine used for the processing of wood. Dowel drilling machines are used to drill dimensionally accurate holes in wood, into which the dowels – the round, threadless, wooden pegs used for wood constructions – can be inserted.
  • Auger: Auger drilling devices are used to drill holes for fence posts. Because the drill bit is shaped like a helical screw, dirt moves upward as the screw is driven into the ground.
  • Hammer Drill: A hammer drill is essential for digging post holes in rocky soil. This will save time and your back since you can drill down through the rock instead of having to manually remove it.
